Nightingales ICM quality awarded courses train individuals to recognising early signs of anger, also the ability to calm an aggressor by using talk down procedures and body language to show empathy.

Violence and aggression by its very nature is unpredictable, Nightingales can now train staff in (either or both) diffusion and breaking away to safety.

It is recognised that many organisations have concerns about staff using physical intervention techniques, however litigation may result if an employer fails to recognise the rights of employees to be able to protect themselves from violence. The Health and Safety Executive has issued improvement notices on employers who fail to afford staff the training in management of violence and aggression.

The training methods used by Nightingales do not use any sort of martial arts type disciplines, The techniques used simply allow the person being attacked to use the aggressors own body weight against them and they are easy to apply if practised regularly. They do not require a high degree of physical skill.

Trainees to participate do not require to be physically strong and training can adapted to suit all ages and levels of physical fitness.

All programmes can be tailored to the reality of everyday practice through risk assessment and practice audit, and help to support staff operating within their capabilities.
